The Collegiate Membership Program of the Razorback Foundation held its annual trivia night on Sept. 29 over Zoom with Coach Musselman as a special host.

Due to COVID-19, the board had to figure out how to conduct a trivia night that followed safety guidelines, but also attract a large audience.

Caroline McCarty, general board member on the Razorback Foundation Collegiate Program, said they were able to accomplish both of those things.

“We definitely had more turnout at the Zoom trivia night,” McCarty said. “It was our second year doing it, and it is so much easier to hop on a Zoom than having to worry about parking.”

The special events committee coordinated the night, but board members were able to suggest ideas for different questions.

Sydney Bates, president of the Razorback Foundation Collegiate Program, said Musselman was the key component for drawing in participants.

Nearly 40 members competed for the chance to win a signed basketball by Musselman. The only entry requirement was a collegiate membership.

When purchasing an access pass to sporting events, students can opt to become a member for $15 at checkout.

Bates said trivia night is not the only benefit members receive.

“When you go to buy your collegiate membership, there is a list of perks. Perks can include a free T-shirt, trivia night, potential courtside tickets, or meet and greets with coaches,” Bates said. “Trivia night is another thing we can put on the list to incentivize students to spend that extra money and become a collegiate member.”

McCarty said the program aims to provide worthwhile benefits to members that are also inexpensive to arrange. Trivia night satisfied this goal. Members were excited to spend time with Musselman, and it was free to host the Zoom meeting.

In comparison, last year the program had to pay to reserve a venue for the event. The expenses saved from the virtual trivia night allows the program to contribute more to the foundation. The foundation uses proceeds to support student-athletes and athletic facilities.

The program advocates for continued community support and student involvement.

“Get a collegiate membership if you don’t have one,” McCarty said. “If you do have a collegiate membership, show up to the events and get involved.”
