Convergent Storytelling

In Northwest Arkansas, there are hundreds of sick children sent to the hospital and their parents are left trying to find a place to stay to focus on their child.

Thankfully, Ronald Mcdonald House Charities (RHMC) operates four housing programs across Northwest Arkansas, each designed to offer solace and support during challenging times.

Their mission is to find and create healthy lifestyles for children and families, providing a haven for families with children undergoing hospital treatments.

They provide “anything that you need to take care of yourself so you can take care of your child,” Chief Development Officer of the Arkomia office Lindsey Dixon said.

At RHMC Arkoma in Fayetteville’s Washinton Regional, they help support mothers and families as their new babies are in the NICU. They serve them with daily necessities to continue being close to those they love.

Dixon said at RMHC they put on 3 major events throughout the year to help raise funding. These programs as well as third-party fundraisers and individuals are how they are able to keep their doors open for families.

Dixon emphasizes the importance of community involvement in spreading the word about RHMC’s work, both inside hospitals and beyond the public eye. The charity depends on the generosity of the community for funding, meals, pantry items, and other necessities.

“Without community support ourselves and any other charity would not be able to serve the community,” Dixon said.

Donations make a substantial impact in alleviating the burdens faced in difficult times. A few donations that are always needed are wishlist items, snacks, toiletries, and other amenities.

The RHMC stands as a testament to the power of collective efforts in creating a supportive environment for families navigating the difficult journey of having a child in the hospital.

Dixon says there are always opportunities to get involved and help give back. Links will be found below for interest in volunteering and donating.
